Ron Skidmore, a RN at Menard Correctional Center, waves to passery-bys on Route 3 during an AFSCME Informational Picket on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 in Chester. Skidmore belongs to a different union, but was there in support. Two guards and a chaplain were injured Tuesday in an attack by a large group of inmates at Menard Correctional Center in southern Illinois, state and union officials say. The assaults were the latest in a series of violent incidents involving guards and inmates, including on death, at Menard and other prisons over the last month. Union officials say the violence comes as a result of a decision by Gov. Pat Quinn to close several prisons around the state to save money. AP Photo
