Our View: Program needs to be maintained

While the FamilyCare program in Illinois is paraded through court, many families may soon be without health coverage. The state program which provides health care for more than half a million Illinois residents is being threatened by a lawsuit over expansion of the program by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

The state had even stopped paying health care providers for the services rendered to participants of the program, but may soon restart the payments following a stay issued by the Illinois Supreme Court on Wednesday.

If this keeps up, those enrolled in the program may soon find it more and more difficult to find health care providers willing to accept the coverage when providing services. Coupled with the economy in its current condition, that would be shameful.

Those with the ability to do so need to find a compromise that will allow FamilyCare to continue within Illinois, rather than piling on even more for those in need to worry about these days.
