Our view: Throw open the doors

No more waiting

Greensburg Daily News

Greensburg — As allegations and scandals continue to explode about hidden wait lists and cooked books at VA medical care facilities across the country, with hints of even more heinous findings to come, we have to wonder why it’s business as usual in our nation’s capital on the VA.

It’s too late. It’s too late for words like internal review and independent investigation. Politicians of all stripes are waving around pseudo magical words about internal audits, subpoenas, requests for information, proposals and more. All of which are doing nothing to help our Veterans today.

Our view, throw open the doors of VA hospitals today across this country and triage this catastrophe by providing immediate open clinics for all Veterans, no appointment needed.

While Washington haggles over causes and blame, it is our fervent hope that Veterans are given the services they need immediately, not later once the dust settles on this deadly debacle. Who gets fired or hired is secondary – a very distant second.

All VA hospitals should immediately offer no appointment clinic hours daily to get to the root of each Veteran’s health problems until none are left waiting. Stop the wait while D.C. debates and open the VA hospitals to provide immediate access to healthcare for all Veterans who have waited far too long already. Utilize any and all means necessary until every last Veteran has been seen and a health care plan for them established.

Quite frankly, who to blame is secondary to getting Veterans the care they need and deserve today.

More meetings, more hearings, more waiting.

Not this time.

One death is one too many. Our service men and women put their lives on the line daily - they shouldn’t have to on the home front when seeking healthcare.

Open the doors and serve our Veterans’ needs as they have served ours. Today.
