Arrests

Gregory Gilliams, 39, of the 1400 block of Salem Road, was arrested at 3:23 p.m. Thursday on a charge of violation of bail bond.

n Brandon Page, 33, of the 400 block of South 22nd Street, was arrested at 4:08 p.m. Thursday on a charge of violation of parole.

Thefts

An employee of Pilot in the 4600 block of Broadway reported at 10:26 a.m. Thursday a drive-off of $470 occurred a day earlier.

n An employee of the Circle K in the 100 block of South 44th Street reported at 3:10 a.m. Thursday a woman attempted to purchase $12 worth of merchandise, then walked out hurriedly after swiping a credit card, which was declined.

Incidents

A woman reported at 11:18 a.m. Thursday she discovered jewelry missing in the 3400 block of Westmont.

n A caller told police at 6:43 p.m. Thursday a man was allegedly battered by a woman. The victim was taken to Crossroads Community Hospital.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Arrest

Semaj Sharkey, 22, of the 400 North 16th Street, was arrested at 3:38 p.m. Thursday on charges of driving while license suspended/revoked and possession of cannabis between 2.5 and 10 grams.

Theft

A man reported at 12:02 p.m. Thursday items were stolen from a cabin at the Archway RV Park in the 9700 block of East Illinois Highway 15.

Incident

Jefferson Fire Protection District responded to a hazardous materials incident in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 early Friday morning. A semi slid off the highway, punching a hole in its fuel tank. The truck leaked over 100 gallons of fuel into the median. Firemen, along with the Mt. Vernon Fire Department’s haz mat team, sucked up the spilled fuel and plugged the tank. The driver, Michael Reed of Memphis, was not injured. The accident happened just north of Dix. The lanes were closed for two hours.
