Register-News Yard of the Week

The Doris Wallace home in the 600 block of Oak Avenue has been chosen as the Register-News Yard of the Week. Wallace said she keeps flowers blooming all summer and fall by using a lot of perennials. “A lot of them I dug out of a field and they’re hardy,” Wallace said. Her back yard boasts a fish pond and annuals. She said she spends a lot of time outside enjoying her yard. Since her husband’s death eight years ago, Wallace said she’s been continuing the attention to detail he showed in the yard. “I used to joke to him, ‘Bob, I know you have been out and measured that grass, and when it gets where you want it, you’ll go cut it,’ so, I’ve been trying to keep up the tradition.” KANDACE MCCOY/REGISTER-NEWS
