BELLE RIVE – The Amish community which lives near this village has planned a benefit dinner for one of their members who has suffered extensive back injuries and needs help in paying for two surgeries.
The benefit for Rudy Byler, 29, will be held at the Opdyke Community Center from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Lydia Mae Yoder who is helping organize the benefit, said Byler initially suffered back injuries as a child and the injuries progressively worsened as he grew older. Byler does not have medical insurance.
The benefit will center around an Amish-style wedding dinner and will include baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli salad, mixed vegetables, drinks and a variety of desserts, Yoder said.
Donations for Byler’s medical care will be accepted at the benefit.
Carry-out dinners will also be available, Yoder said.
