Crossroads Hospital awarded mammography accreditation

MT. VERNON — Crossroads Community Hospital as been awarded a three year accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.

ACR is headquartered in Reston, Va., and awards accreditation to facilities for achievement of high practice standards after a peer review evaluation practice, according to information from the hospital. Evaluations are conducted by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Assessments are conducted on the qualifications of personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report findings to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

“We are proud to receive this accreditation and hope to encourage mammography to all women because early detection is the best protection,” Crossroads CEO Ed Cunningham said. ‘Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in women and is one of the most treatable with early detection. We need to make sure our mothers, daughters and sisters are protected and this technology is certainly a step in the right direction.”

The ACR is a national organization that serves more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologist, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs that focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
