Search warrants result in cannabis find

MT. VERNON — More than 300 cannabis plants were found growing in a home on Friday, as a result of search warrants issued in the city and Bluford.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, the MVPD and Jefferson County Sheriff’s High Risk Team executed three search warrants, two in Mt. Vernon and one in Bluford on Friday.

The cannabis plants were found at a home in the 800 block of Apricot Avenue. Michael R. Streiff, 33, and Rondo D. Moss, 33, were taken into custody and charged with cannabis cultivation between 30 and 500 plants. Moss was taken into custody at his residence in the 900 block of South 23rd Street where approximately 200 cannabis plants were found growing.

The third search warrant, served in the 14400 block of N. Dove Lane, Bluford, found about 25 cannabis plants, a psilocybin “magic” mushroom growth operation with a large number of mushrooms present, a large number of ecstasy pills and a large amount of currency, information states.

Cody Ashworth, 24, and Katie N. Buonaura, 19, were arrested and charged with multiple cannabis and controlled substance offenses. Christopher L. Wyant, 23, was also charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug equipment.

All persons arrested were taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center and await for bond to be set.
