MT. VERNON — The driver of a car which was involved in a car/motorcycle accident which resulted in the loss of a leg for the motorcycle driver, has been sentenced.
Cynthia Stover, 45, of Opdyke was sentenced to two years’ probation, fined and ordered to complete 150 hours of public service after pleading guilty to aggravated driving under the influence resulting in an accident causing bodily harm. In addition, a 60-day jail sentence and a restitution order were stayed. The sentence was handed down over the arguments of the Jefferson County State’s Attorney who asked for jail time for Stover.
Stover was driving a car on Liberty Road in July 2007 and hit a motorcycle driven by Adam Hart, 25, head-on. As a result of the accident, Hart lost his leg. Stover was originally arrested on three counts of aggravated DUI and illegal possession of alcohol by a driver.
Hart filed a civil lawsuit against Stover on March 24, 2008, asking the court for damages in excess of $50,000.
