WAYNE CITY — The National Weather Service in Paducah is reporting it found evidence of tornado damage at the F1 and F2 level in Wayne County.

On Monday, the NWS reported a Damage Survey Team continues to investigate and assess damage due to severe storms that moved through Jefferson and Wayne counties on Monday.

Though no evidence of tornado damage was assessed by the NWS, Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch said the area from Woodlawn, stretching across Richview Road, into Texico, sustained damage from winds, with a few trees along the path damaged and power poles blown over. No injuries were reported, Mulch said.

In Wayne County, an F1 tornado occurred at 12:44 p.m. Sunday approximately five miles northeast of Wayne City to five miles northeast of Cisne, according to information from Dave Purdy of the NWS. Winds peaked at 100 miles per hour and the average path width was 50 yards. The path length spanned 18 miles.

One mobile home was damaged with a possible injury, the NWS reported, and one-third of a large storage shed lifted over a barn and produced “moderate damage” to another home. Numerous trees were also reported broke or uprooted.

Evidence was found of a second tornado at the F2 level occuring at 12:56 p.m. Sunday approximately three miles north of Enterprise in Wayne County to seven miles south of Clay City.

According to the NWS, winds peaked at 122 mph and averaged a path width of 100 yards. The tornado damaged four structures, along with numerous downed or uprooted trees.

In response to the damage assessed by the NWS, The American Red Cross of Mid Southern Illinois is providing assistance with groceries, clothes and other immediate needs to disaster victims of the tornadoes. For any other further information or assistance, residents may call the Red Cross at 244-2083.
