WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-19) has announced the Village of Wayne City is the recipient of a grant and a loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program. Wayne City will be receiving a $189,000 grant and a $250,000 loan through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program.
The funds will be used to repair and improve the village’s wastewater treatment plant lagoons. The collection and treatment facility needs these updates to meet Illinois EPA requirements.
“Keeping rural water and sewer facilities updated is important for the health of our communities,” Shimkus said. “These funds will allow the village to make the necessary improvements to the treatment facility, which hasn’t seen major updates since the 1970s.
“I want to also applaud Rural Development. This is one of the best government programs, as far as assistance to the rural areas in my district,” Shimkus added.
Shimkus office can assist with Rural Development and other federal grant programs. Contact his Springfield office at 217-492-5090 for more information.
