MT. VERNON — The monthly committee meetings and the regular meeting of the Jefferson County Board have been moved up a week due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Committee meetings which are usually held the third week of the month will be held this week. The Highway Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday; the Land, Tax and Appointments Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday; the Services Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday; the Building and Inventory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday; and the Fiscal Committee will meet at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. The regular board meeting will get under way at 7 p.m. May 18.
The Highway Committee will be meeting at the Highway Department. The agenda for the meeting indicates the committee will discuss the monthly fuel quotes, consider a resolution to award a township bridge project in the Mt. Vernon road district, open bids for repairs to the old maintenance building that was burned in December 2006, discuss a news release, and consider business deemed necessary and proper.
The Land, Tax and Appointments Committee will meet in the Jefferson County Board Room, located in the basement of the courthouse. The agenda items to be discussed include an appointment to the Jefferson Fire Protection District Board, two appointments to the Woodlawn Fire Protection District Board, an appointment to Webber Fire District Board, an appointment to the Waltonville Fire District Board, the termination of the 1/4 percent public safety tax and anything deemed necessary and proper.
The Services Committee will meet in the County Board room following the Land, Tax and Appointments Committee. The agenda items listed for the Services Committee are approval of the public defender’s report, approval of the animal shelter report, an update on the revisions of the county code book, bids for remodeling the cat room at the animal shelter, the need to add a room onto the animal shelter and a letter regarding such to the Mt. Vernon city manager, and an update on union negotiations and anything necessary and proper.
The Building and Inventory Committee will meet in the board room following the Services Committee. Agenda items include an update on the tuckpointing by Western Waterproofing, an update on termite control, a resolution prohibiting signs on the courthouse lawn, and anything deemed necessary and proper.
The Fiscal Committee will meet at 7:15 p.m. following the Building and Inventory Committee in the board room. Agenda items are an update on county finances, accrual form discussion, a report on restructuring series A & B bonds — those which were issued for the Justice Center, future salary increases for office holders who will be elected in November, a resolution on the public defender’s salary, audit of claims, approval of payroll distribution reports, approval of prepaid claims, an informational notice of an increase in the marriage license fee, and anything deemed necessary and proper.
