Ameren hosting expo on power choices

Staff Report

MT. VERNON — Businesses will get the chance to learn more about their options in choosing an electric provider during a PowerSwitch Expo which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 22 at the Holiday Inn.

The expo is the last of 18 events sponsored by Ameren Illinois Utilities.

“Illinois law permits business customers to decide who they want as their supplier of electricity,” stated John Barud, manager of Ameren Illinois Utilities Division VI. “Our PowerSwitch Expo will bring business customers together with the registered retail suppliers of electricity. We want all of our business electric customers to understand how they may be able to reduce their energy costs by switching to a new supplier of electricity.”

The expo will allow businesses customers to come together with the registered retail electric suppliers. Special presenters will explain the electric supply options and what deregulation means to business.

Business customers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent Ameren bill so they can shop and compare electric supply rates. If the customer determines which supplier best meets their electricity needs, they will be able to switch to the new supplier at the expo or at a later time.

Ameren Illinois Utilities are energy delivery companies and do not profit from the sale of electricity, according to the utility. The utilities pass the cost of electricity to their customers dollar for dollar. The utilities are neutral with regard to a customer’s electric supply choice and do not recommend one supply option over another, and do not guarantee that switching suppliers will result in savings, according to information from Ameren.

The event is free to Ameren Illinois Utility business customers.

Additional information about the event is available at www.powerswitchexpo.com.
