Former MV resident sentenced on crack cocaine charges

EAST ST. LOUIS — Chris S. King of Sikeston, Mo., and formerly of Mt. Vernon has been sentenced to 120 months’ in federal prison on drug charges.
King, 27, was sentenced to 120 months’ and three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $620 in fines after pleading guilty to two count of distribution of crack cocaine and a count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. All the crimes took place in Mt. Vernon.
According to information from the United States Attorney, evidence established that King sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant on two occasions on June 26, 2006, and those sales were tape recorded by law enforcement. The evidence further established that on Nov. 30, 2006, King was caught in possession of less than 5 grams of crack cocaine after participating in a drug deal in Mt. Vernon. Evidence established that King was responsible for the distribution of a total of more than 50 grams of crack cocaine in Mt. Vernon between 2005 and 2007, according to the U.S. Attorney.
The investigation into the crimes were a cooperative effort between the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
