Arrests made after warrants executed

Staff Report

MT. VERNON — Two people were arrested late last week and a third expected to be arrested after search warrants were executed by the Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team, including one who was under house arrest at the time the search warrant was executed.

A search warrant was executed on July 1 at a home in the 400 block of South 27th Street, after investigations revealed quantities of cannabis were allegedly being sold from the residence. Once the residence was secured, narcotics division detectives recovered quantities of cannabis and U.S. currency.

A resident of the home, Theodore R. Jefferson, 19, was arrested on charges of possession with the intent to deliver cannabis. During his arrest, officers discovered Jefferson was under house arrest restrictions and on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and was wearing an ankle bracelet monitor at the time of his arrest. Jefferson was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.

A second search warrant was executed on July 3 in the 400 block of Perkins Avenue, after investigations allegedly revealed that quantities of crack cocaine were being sold from the residence.

Detectives recovered quantities of crack cocaine, cannabis, U.S. currency and a loaded handgun.

Romell D. Williams, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of the Jefferson County Housing Authority.

A second resident, Andre T. Davis, 23, was taken to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment after he attempted to swallow and destroy quantities of crack cocaine. Davis was admitted for treatment and his condition was not available as of press time. According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, when Davis is released from the hospital, he will be arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver within 1,000 feet of the Jefferson County Housing Authority.

Investigations into drug related crimes are continuing and anyone with information involving drug related crimes or suspicious activity are urged to contact the MVPD/JCSO Narcotics Division at 242-6800 or Jefferson County Crime-stoppers.
