Deputy charged with DUI

By TESA CULLI

RADOM — A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed in Washington County, after being involved in a one-vehicle accident happened early Sunday morning.

Randall Nadolski, 39, of the 3000 block of North Cobalt Lane in Scheller, was off duty and in his personal vehicle when he was involved in the accident, which happened on Radom Road south of the Radom curve, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch.

According to Mulch, a 911 call came in to the Jefferson County Justice Center at 3:15 a.m. advising emergency personnel of the accident, but it was determined the accident had happened in Washington County. Mulch said the Washington County Sheriff’s office and ambulance service were notified and responded to the accident. Nadolski was transported to Washington County Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Nadolski has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed, according to court records.

“The Washington County Sheriff is conducting an investigation into the crash,” Mulch reported. “Once that’s complete, he will forward his findings to me. I’m hoping by mid-week to have a report and look at it closer to see what their investigation reveals.”

According to information from Washington County Sheriff Charles Parker, copies of reports on the accident will be forwarded to Mulch as well as the Washington County State’s Attorney once the investigation is completed.

This is the third time Nadolski has been involved in an investigation for car accidents. In April 2005, Nadolski was found in the middle of a country road in the early morning hours, and when deputies responded to the scene of the incident, Nadolski was not in his vehicle. Deputies then went to Nadolski’s home for a well-being check, but there was no answer at his door. At the time, Nadolski said he was tired and sick and although he had been at a bar earlier in the evening, he was not intoxicated and alcohol had not played a role in the incident. Nadolski was disciplined with three days without pay instead of a ticket charging him with leaving the scene of an accident.

On Dec. 14, 2005, Nadolski was again found slumped over the steering wheel of his personal vehicle under similar circumstances, and the Illinois State Police conducted an investigation and determined there were no criminal charges to be filed at that time. Nadolski had been placed on paid leave from January 2005 until the final ISP report was issue to Mulch in March 2006.

Nadolski is scheduled to have his first appearance in court on Oct. 6.
