Drug sweep results in 53 arrest warrants

Staff Report

MT. VERNON — A total of 53 arrest warrants have been issued in conjunction with federal indictments handed down for an alleged heroin/cocaine distribution ring which operated in Jefferson and Marion counties.

According to Mt. Vernon Police Chief Chris Mendenall, members of the MVPD began attempting to locate numerous persons wanted on Jefferson County warrants on Oct. 9 on drug related offenses which have allegedly happened in the Mt. Vernon area over the past several months.

Nine Centralia men were indicted in federal court in connection with the ring, which allegedly has been operating in Jefferson County and Marion County from about August 2008 to Sept. 30, according to information from the office of United States Attorney, Southern District.

“These arrest warrants were issued in conjunction with several recent federal arrests on drug charges, as well as several warrants issued in the Marion County community of Centralia, Illinois, after the MVPD/JCSO Narcotics Division, the Centralia Police Department and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department began working a large scale joint drug related investigation,” information from Mendenall stated. “In all, a total of 53 warrants have been issued for persons involved in these drug cases as a result of these investigations.”

Of the 19 arrest warrants issued in Jefferson County, those who have been arrested so far are:

— Jamarco Foulks, 22, on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver;

— Shannon Boyd, 29, on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance;

— Denise Johnson, 36, on charges of possession of a controlled substance;

— Sheree Boyd, 27, on two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance;

— Chad James, 32, on charges of delivery of a controlled substance;

— McKinley Miller, 66, on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance;

— Alfred Ford, 44, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance;

— Calvin Webster, 21, on charges of delivery of a controlled substance; and

— Adrian Carruth, 19, on charges of delivery of a controlled substance.

The MVPD/JCSO continues to pursue drug offenders in an aggressive manner and citizens are reminded to call the narcotics division at 242-6800 or Jefferson County Crimestoppers with information.
