City building at $185,700 for October

MT. VERNON — Construction in the King City came in at $185,700 in October, and an additional two business projects without projected costs.
Don Sol 2, Inc., located at 300 S. 44th Street, received a building permit in October, with project costs to be determined at a later date, and Bugsy’s Chicago Dog/Jim Youroukos, 311 Main Street, also received a permit during the month, but no estimated project cost was available, making actual building in the city higher than the amount estimated for the month.
Business construction and signage accounted for $150,700 of the total construction, with residential building topping $35,000. The permit for Don Sol was for a business addition, remodel, footings, foundation and floor slab. The permit for Bugsy’s Chicago Dog was for footings, a floor slab, foundation and related rough-ins.
In September, the city had $684,000 in business construction permitted, with the biggest boost coming from the Kohl’s Department Store Inc., permit at 141 S. Davidson Ave., next to Staples. Kohl’s has also requested a conditional sign permit for the site, which will be discussed Monday at the regular Zoning and Planning Commission meeting.
Other commercial building permits issued during October were:
Ivan’s Upholstery, 501 S. 10th St., to construct a business at an estimated cost of $12,000; and
Illini Ice Inc., 219 Main St., to erect a business at an estimated cost of $125,000.
Residential building permitted during the month were:
Cindy Welch, 2921 S. 13th St., to erect a storage shed at an estimated cost of $8,000;
Oma D. Jones, 1810 Briarwood, to erect a storage building at an estimated cost of $5,000;
Jerrod Stroud, 2113 Cherry St., to construct a room addition at an estimated cost of $2,000;
Mac McClanahan, 2504 Cherry, to set a storage building at an estimated cost of $800;
Dale Mick, 808 Buffalo Lane, to erect a storage shed at an estimated cost of $1,000;
Jason Kippenberger, 1014 Mick Rd., to construct a porch at an estimated cost of $5,000;
Greg Backes, 25 Northbrook, to construct a car port at an estimated cost of $5,200; and
Alva Dare, 16658 E. Fairfield Rd., to erect a garage at an estimated cost of $8,000.
Signage permits issued during October were:
Armed Forced Career Center/T. Ham Sign Co., 101 Davidson, to place a new sign at an estimated cost of $7,700;
Mt. Vernon Crossing/T. Ham Sign Co., 101 Davidson, to place a new sign at an estimated cost of $6,000; and
Country Craft Furniture, 4704 Broadway, to place a temporary sign at no known estimated cost.
Two demolition permits were issued during the month to Jerrod Stroud, 2113 Cherry to demolish a house; and to Brady Moore, 611 S. 13th St., to demolish a house.
