Mt. Vernon Knife Show this weekend

MT. VERNON — Knife enthusiasts looking to buy, sell, or trade should mark their calendars for an upcoming King City tradition.

The 27th annual Mt. Vernon Knife Show will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show, featuring 50 to 60 knife vendors, will be held in the Rolland Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park, 800 South 27th Street.

Nancy Hancock, a Mt. Vernon resident, is one of the organizers of the event. She said there would be vendors from all over the Midwest — from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky, to name a few.

“There’s a group that has made their own knives,” she said. “There are groups selling factory productions, and there is a group that likes the older knives.”

There will be a wide variety of recognizable factory brand knives as well as handmade creations at the show, Hancock said.

Hancock said the event has a positive effect on the local economy, because it brings in people from all over.

“There are 25 vendors from out-of-town that will stay in a hotel, and eat,” she said.

Admission for people ages 10 and older is $3. Children under the age of 10 accompanied by an adult are admitted free. Food will be sold at the event.

Hancock said she expected mostly adults to attend the event, though she would like to have more young people interested in the hobby.

Hancock said she expected 300 to 350 attendees to this year’s event.

Anyone with questions about the Knife Show or vendors may contact Hancock at 242-4514.
