MT. VERNON —With still two counties to report, L. James Hanson conceded to David K. Overstreet for the office of the Circuit Judge in the 2nd Judicial Circuit.

Overstreet confirmed late Tuesday night that Hanson called to concede the race.

“I’m really honored the voters have trusted me with a full term,” Overstreet said. “It’s been a privilege to serve for the past 1 1/2 years. I want to thank the voters and I enjoyed getting out and meeting people in all 12 counties.”

Unofficial results showed Overstreet with 37,583 votes in the 12 counties within the 2nd Judicial Circuit with Hanson receiving 30,148.

In Jefferson County, Overstreet received 8,504 votes; Hanson received 7,870. In Wayne County, Overstreet received 5,096 votes; Hanson received 2,208 votes.

In Hamilton County, Overstreet received 2,079 votes with Hanson receiving 1,710 votes. Results were not available for Gallatin and White counties.

Overstreet was appointed to the position of judge in the district on May 1, 2007, to replace the seat vacated when Judge Jim Wexstten was appointed to the 5th Appellate Court District.

Overstreet is a former president of the Jefferson County Bar Association; has served as city and village attorney for McLeansboro, Bonnie and Ina; serves as a deacon at Mt. Vernon Church of Christ; is a former board member of the Jefferson County Crimestoppers; and is active in area youth sports groups, coaching baseball and basketball.
