Body found at Miller Lake Bridge

MT. VERNON — The Miller Lake Bridge was closed to traffic for just over an hour Tuesday afternoon, after the body of a fisherman was discovered.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Roger Mulch, Jerry W. Sandy, 63, of the 400 block of South 21st Street, is believed to have died of natural causes.

Mulch said the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received reports at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday that a person’s body was lying on the bridge at Miller Lake. Those responding to the report included JCSO, Jefferson Fire Protection District and Litton Ambulance.

Sandy’s body was discovered by deputies along the rocked bank located on the north side of the Miller Lake Bridge on North Miller Lake Lane.

The incident is being investigated by the JCSO and the coroner’s office. The initial investigation results reveal apparent natural causes as the cause of death and no foul play is suspected, according to Mulch.
