MT. VERNON — — The United Way of South Central Illinois has announced it has funds from the National Emergency Food and Shelter program available for organizations in Jefferson County.
Jefferson County has $17,636 in funding, which must be used for emergency food and shelter. According to United Way Executive Director Rhonda Edmonson, organizations which offer emergency rent and utility assistance will be given priority in the application process.
To apply for the funding, local agencies must be private, voluntary non-profit or units of government; be eligible to receive federal funds; have an accounting system; practice non-discrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter services; and have a voluntary board.
The application deadline is Jan. 20, and may be obtained by contacting the United Way at 242-8000.
