First United Methodist Church

This Sunday is a very important one to 12 youth in our congregation. There will be only one worship service this Sunday at 10 a.m., during which these youth will be confirmed.

Confirmation refers to the decision a person makes to respond to God’s grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming their baptismal vows before the congregation. Most confirmands are youth between the ages of 11 and 14, who have been nurtured in the church since their baptism as an infant or young child. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings and the United Methodist Church; and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.

The Rev. Victor Long’s message at this service will be, “Called, Chosen and Sent.” His scripture texts will be Luke 6:12-16.

Sunday worship service for confirmation will be held at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. At noon, a lunch for confirmands and family will be held; at 5 p.m. Sunday, the Uppity Women of the Bible will meet at the home of Stan and Kathy Newman.
