Hope Ministries hosts giveaway

The Register-News

---- — MT. VERNON — A free school supply and underwear giveaway will be hosted by Hope Ministries on Saturday.

“It’s our annual back-to-school giveaway,” said Hope Stuckey of Hope Ministries. “It will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the shelter, 1515 S. 14th St.”

Hope Ministries has been hosting the school supply giveaway for at least 10 years, and will also be giving out under garments to those students in need as well, Stuckey said.

“We give them enough to get ready for the first day of school,” Stuckey said. “They get supplies, clean socks and underwear.”

Although there are several back-to-school supply efforts underway in the county, Stuckey said there is still need in the community.

“Everyone doesn’t go to the other ones or get everything they need,” Stuckey said. “We are trying to get kids the additional supplies they need.”

Supplies will be provided to students of any age, and children must be present to receive the items.

The supplies which will be given away are donated to Hope Ministries by community members.

Stuckey said donations are still being accepted for Saturday’s event, and any donations which may come in too late for Saturday will be stored and used at the Christmas giveaway the ministry hosts or at the back-to-school giveaway next year.

Additional information about the event or donation needs is available by calling 315-5941. Donations will also be collected at the shelter, located at 1515 S. 14th St., Mt. Vernon.
