MT. VERNON —
Paul Miller was beside himself Saturday for the Eagles Post 2791 first-ever car show in Mt. Vernon.
Anticipating raising $2,000 for families in need during the holidays, the Eagles trustee was beaming as bright as the paint and chrome of the vintage cars being shown. Trustees had been wanting to do a fundraiser, he said, and their first attempt was a success.
“We just said we can get something going to help families and kids, and it’s been a real good crowd. I’m glad we are doing it,” he said.
The show featured 65 cars, from hot-rods to vintage cars, and 35 motorcycles including the “Budweiser” bike from St. Louis. Each entry cost $10, and proceeds were also generated from food and drink sales.
Eleven trophies were presented. Miller said next year the Eagles will have 20 awards, including one for the entry that traveled the furthest for the show. This year’s prizes included awards for best of show, best paint, best motor, best motorcycle, best truck, best interior, president’s choice best of rest, cars and trucks 1970 and older, cars and trucks 1971 and newer, and the trustee’s choice.
“A lot and lot of people have come and are having a good time. And the city has been gracious in allowing us to do this,” Miller said. “I’m already looking forward to next year.”
