Balloon glow scheduled at Fall Fest

MT. VERNON — A few staples and some new additions will highlight the entertainment schedule at this year's Mt. Vernon Fall Fest.

"We've got a few new things and some old favorites, so we think we've done OK," said Bonnie Jerdon of the Mt. Vernon Tourism & Visitors Bureau.

Friday night, Oct. 18 will feature country music, Saturday, Oct. 19 will be mainly rock; and a contemporary Christian lineup is scheduled on Sunday, Oct. 20.

The featured entertainment on Saturday night will be Escape: Journey Tribute Band. The committee attempted to get the Journey tribute band a year ago, and were unsuccessful, so a Chicago tribute band was the featured entertainment.

"We have a committee that works on entertainment and they came up with some ideas. We focused on that Journey tribute band. Some of the committee had seen them and heard them and thought they were fantastic and thought it would be a good draw on our Saturday night," Jerdon said of the decision.

Other entertainment on the main stage on Saturday includes: Polly Launay, a violinist; We Got It Covered, Fertile Soil, and Trampled Underfoot, a band that does Led Zeppelin covers.

On Friday, from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Beaucoup Bottom Band and Jordan Carter and Justice will perform. Both are from the Southern Illinois area. Carter, a Fairfield native, lives in Nashville and is pursuing a career in country music. Beaucoup plays a variety of country, bluegrass and country rock.

The carnival will open on Friday night and the Kids Zone will be open from 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday's main attraction is the 2 p.m. parade. This year's theme is Super Heroes Get Creative. There will be a chili cook-off following the parade, and a DMDC car show will be held from 5 p.m.
