INA — Crossroads Community Hospital CEO Ed Cunningham was elected chairman of the Rend Lake College Board of Trustees at Tuesday's meeting.
Cunningham, of Mt. Vernon, replaces Bryan Drew of Benton, who will remain on the board. Other officers elected include: Randy Rubenacker of McLeansboro as vice chairman, John Kabat of Scheller as secretary and Angie Kistner, the college's Director of Finance and Administration, as treasurer.
Board member Marvin Scott vacated his seat on the board after serving as a trustee for 35 years. Scott was replaced by Larry Manning. More information on Scott and Manning is on Page 8B in today's edition.
Scott was presented with a knife for his service, and Drew was presented with a crystal gavel for his service as president.
Following a brief public hearing, the Board approved selling $1.9 million in working cash fund bonds for the purpose of increasing the working cash fund of the college district. It will not change the District's current tax levy.
IN OTHER BUSINESS:
n First readings were held on board policy and procedures for part time employees, volunteer staff, insurance, and social media.
n Permission was granted to suspend the men's wrestling program, effective immediately. The action was taken based on a lack of state funding and tuition reimbursement, and very few Illinois community colleges have wrestling programs making the team having to travel and compete with four-year colleges.
n Permission was granted to reduce the scope of work on Public, Health and Safety levy projects. The college is still pursuing the reroof of the children's center and Market Place HVAC controls upgrades, but would prefer not to replace an air handling hit in the Science Building or replace cooling coils in the air handling units in the gymnasium.
n Permission was granted to submit to the Illinois Community College Board a Protection, Health and Safety levy application to replace exterior lighting with LED lighting and permission was granted to bid, pending ICCB approval.
