MT. VERNON -- — New state legislation legalizing the use of medical marijuana will go into effect Jan. 1. The law permits authorized patients to use medical marijuana if it's grown by an approved cultivation center and bought from a registered dispensary.
After Jan. 1, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Department of Agriculture will have 120 days to create rules related to the new law. Examples of rules include developing a registry of patients and creating regulations for marijuana cultivation centers.
