Home show deemed success

MT. VERNON — Judging by early results, the second annual Home Show sponsored by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce was a successful event. The show was held this past weekend at the Mt. Vernon Airport.

“We were worried about the weather, but it didn’t deter the crowd,” said Makaela Scattone, marketing director of the Chamber. “The vendors were satisfied and thought we had a good turnout and people came in the doors said it was a good show. Overall, we were pleased.”

Attendance for the two-day show was estimated to be 1,100, according to Scattone.

“Again, the airport staff was wonderful to work with. They made things a lot easier on us,” Scattone added.

The home show was revived by the Chamber a year ago after the Southern Illinois Homebuilders Association suspended its operation over a 13-year period.

About 50 exhibitors displayed various merchandise and products for participants to view in two hangars provided by airport officials. Several of the exhibitors had door prizes, while others chose to give away samples or products to visitors.

The Chamber also awarded several booth awards. They include: Most creative, Coldwell Banker/Associated Realtors; Best presentation, E.A. Knight Construction; Best use of booth space, Associated Lumber; and Overall best of show, Furniture Outlet Mattress.

“We had enough exhibitors that we needed to be in a second building,” Scattone said. “We had a number of people that opted to be in the show again. Some were new and some were not, but the number of exhibitors included a larger region than we had last year. We even had a couple of exhibitors out of Missouri, so that was great.”

Bricks n’ Stones Creative Concrete Professionals and One Stop Flooring America were corporate sponsors of the event.
