MT. VERNON — The Jefferson County Crusaders for Change will be hosting a Black History Month event on Feb. 22.
“We want to get all the churches involved and have them participate,” said Crusaders for Change president Barbara Green. “We also want to bring police, whites, blacks, Hispanics, everyone together. This is our community and I want it back and I’m sure everyone else wants it back.”
Unity in the Community will be held at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 Conger Ave., on Feb. 22. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
“There will be dinner, and a program,” Green said. “Our speaker is a known resident, Donell Young. This young man left Mt. Vernon, and is now getting his doctorate.”
In addition to dinner and a speaker, the event will feature songs, dance, poetry and additional guest speakers, Green said.
Green Said the Jefferson County Crusaders for Change and the event are to promote peace and understanding in the community as well as teamwork among churches and organizations.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door or from any member of the Jefferson County Crusaders for Change — Green; vice president Thomas Bryant; secretary Irean Spells; and chaplain Dollye Neelye. Additional information is available by contacting Green at 731-1259 or Bryant at 920-7129.
