MT. VERNON — A special fundraising event to kick off the 2014 Heart Walk will be held at Williamson Asia’s newly renovated showroom at 102 North Ninth Street from 4 to 7 p.m. today.
Terry and Laura Schaubert, co-owners of Williamson Asia, are co-chairs of the 2014 Heart Walk to be held from 8 to 11 a.m. April 12 at Veterans Memorial Park in Mt. Vernon.
“In talking to Beth Walker, area manager of the American Heart Association, we were trying to find ways to get people in here for this one time fundraiser,” explained Laura Schaubert. “For $25, anyone can get a tour of our facility, and we’ll end up at The Rex for food and drinks.”
The Schauberts completed renovation of their two buildings on North Ninth Street and 830 Main Street recently. The facility on Main Street was completed by Black and Sons Construction; the showroom space on Ninth Street was done by Linus Rapp & Associates. Both projects were partially funded through downtown TIF funding.
“We’re very happy with our renovations,” Schaubert said.
It was Dan Black’s influence that led to the Schauberts being named Heart Walk co-chairs.
“When they were looking for chairs, it was a short list,” Laura Schaubert said, noting her and her husband have family members with heart disease.
“We like to be involved and Mt. Vernon has been very supportive,” she said.
The goal for this year’s fundraising campaign is $120,000.
Schaubert said corporate sponsors of the event will be recognized at this evening’s fundraiser.
“They are very important because they are a large part of what gets this thing kicked off,” she said.
