New site promotes tourism

MT. VERNON — There’s a new resource to find out what’s going on, courtesy of the Tourism Department.

“It’s going to be a great thing not just for visitors to the area, but for the community as well,” said tourism marketing executive Rachel Hunsell. “It’s a wealth of information for everyone.”

Unveiled earlier this month, the website — www.enjoymtvernon.com — includes information about things to do in the area, where to go in the area, where to stay, restaurants and an active event calendar.

“If you’re looking for something to do, it’s showcases attractions, dining and all the information you need, right at your fingertips,” Hunsell said, adding there is even information about which restaurants offer carry out and delivery. “I think it will be very beneficial to the community.”

The site also features photos of local residents and events. Maps are also included in the website information for visitors.

“The calendar of events feature is interactive,” Hunsell added. “There are pictures and links. You can add the calendar information to your personal calendar using the Google and Outlook applications.”

Hunsell said she hopes the interactive calendar of events will encourage the community to keep the Tourism Department informed.

“We encourage members of the community to keep us updated as well,” Hunsell said. “We have the weekly newsletter — and there are links on the site to subscribe to the newsletter — but we will also include information about events in the calendar. We want to drive people to their events.”
