MT. VERNON — The Illinois Secretary of State Police Saturday held a parking sting in Mt. Vernon to crack down on violators of the Parking Program for Persons with Disabilities.
In 2012, more than 160 citations were issued in the state to those violating this program. Drivers caught misusing a disabled placard face a six-month driver's license suspension and a $500 fine. The penalties are harsher for repeat offenders.
Saturday's sting in Mt. Vernon took place in the Times Square Mall parking lot and at other retail stores used by holiday shoppers.
