Christian Social Services renamed again

---- — MT. VERNON — Christian Social Services of Illinois will change its name a second time Jan. 1, 2014.

CSS, founded in 1947, is a nonprofit social services agency providing adoption, pregnancy care, foster care, counseling services senior assisted living, senior employment a residential treatment center for abused and neglected children ages 6-12.

The Mt. Vernon Regional office serves children and families in 13 counties. The regions’ core program is foster care, counseling, adoption and senior employment services.

The board of directors of CSS announced the new name of organization, Caritas Family Solutions. The name Caritas is the latin meaning for charity or love of neighbor.

The organization had traditionally been a part of Catholic Charities of Diocese of Bellville, known as Catholic Social Services of Southern Illinois until establishing itself in 2012 as Christian Social Services.

Caritas will continue to guide families and caregivers helping the vulnerable and creating a living stable environment for thousands in the region, stated Gary Hauelsmann, Chief Executive Officer.

“Our new name reflects this renewed spirit,” stated Hauelsmann.

“We are very excited to tell the community we are still here as we have always been for 66 years.

“We all know very well the growing needs of those we serve in the 42 southern most counties of Illinois. Child abuse in our communities continues to rise and the fragile state of mind many of our neighbors is reflected in local headlines daily. Our services are needed more than ever before,” Hauelsmann continued.
