MT. VERNON — — Circuit Clerk John Scott formally announced Saturday he will be seeking the office of Jefferson County Sheriff in the March 2014 primary.
Scott, a former jail administrator, was appointed by the Jefferson County Board as Circuit Clerk in 2006. He was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 — both times with no opposition.
"As your sheriff I will streamline and update the services and return to the basics of protecting and serving the citizens of Jefferson County," Scott told an audience at the Muni-West Building. "No matter what part of the county you live in I want you to see a proactive and professional patrol and correctional division. I want them both to be here to serve in a professional and pro-active matter, and I will do this by leading by example."
