MT. VERNON — —
MT. VERNON – District 80 schools will hold registration on Aug. 8 and 9 for the coming school year, and an estimated 1,400 students are expected to go through the process.
Parents of returning students should already have received their registration packets in the mail. Those who haven't are urged to call the district at 244-8080 as soon as possible, said Assistant Superintendent Aletta Lawrence.
Lawrence added that parents who fill out the registration papers beforehand will complete the process much quicker.
“It actually depends on how many people are there at the time, (but) if you have your paperwork filled out, it takes about a half hour,” Lawrence said. “It takes longer if you have to fill out (paperwork) or wait in line.”
Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 8, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 9, at the Primary Center. This registration is only for kindergarten through eighth grade students.
Students will register in alphabetical order. Those with a last name in the A to C category will sign up between 10 a.m. and noon Aug. 8. Those in the D to M category will register between noon and 5 p.m. that day.
Then, on Aug. 9, the remaining N to Z students will register all day.
New students to the district will have to bring a birth certificate, Social Security card, and health records, Lawrence said.
Physicals and dental check-ups will be available on site during registration. However, to take advantage of these programs, you must bring proof of insurance or a medical card.
At this time, District 80 only offers in-person registration.
Even so, Lawrence said she will be watching Mt. Vernon Township High School's online registration program closely to see how well it works. This is the first year MVTHS is offering the online option.
