Armed robbery investigated

MT. VERNON — City police continue their investigation into an armed robbery occurring Friday night on the east side of town.

Police were called to the Dollar General Store in the 400 block of Broadway shortly after 9 p.m.

Chief of Police Chris Mendenall said the suspect is a white man, believed to be in his 50’s, with a thin build. He was wearing a dark hood over a ball cap and blue jeans, and fled on foot.

Mendenall said the suspect displayed a black hangun and got away with an undetermined amount of money.

No injuries were reported.

Police combed the area Friday night, including the railroad tracks, south of the business, but was unable to locate the suspect.

As of late Monday afternoon, the suspect remained at-large.
