7 locals recently sentenced

MT. VERNON — Seven local individuals were recently sentenced to prison as a result of pleading guilty to various offenses, according to information from the office of the Jefferson County State’s Attorney.

n Joie A. Donovan, 28, of Bonnie, pleaded guilty to burglary, a class two felony, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by three years of parole. On Jan. 28, 2010, information states, Donovan broke into a garage at a residence in Bonnie and stole an ATV;

n Frank A. Sanders, 46, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful failure of a sex offender to report, a class two felony. Sanders was sentenced to serve four years in prison, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release. On Oct. 19, 2012, Sanders failed to report a change of address as required by his status as a registered sex offender, information states. Sanders was previously convicted of failing to register in Madison County;

n Robert B. Visser, 28, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony, and was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with one year of parole. On Sept. 9, 2011, Visser was found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin during a traffic stop by Mt. Vernon Police Department officers, information states;

n Larry A. Sharp, 34, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to two counts of retail theft, one being a class 3 felony and the other a class 4 felony, and was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by one year of parole. On Nov. 7, 2012, Sharp stole a computer from the Mt. Vernon Walmart, information states. On Oct. 22, 2012, Sharp stole a computer monitor but was not immediately apprehended;

n Lyle M Bulliner, 20, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to reckless conduct, a class 4 felony, and was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by one yer of mandatory supervised release. On Aug. 26, 2012, Bulliner engaged in conduct that resulted in physical injury to a child, information states;

n Alice F. Patterson, 26, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to theft, a class 3 felony, and was sentenced to serve three years and six months in prison, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release. On Aug. 31, 2012, Patterson stole a motor vehicle from a residence in Mt. Vernon, information states, and;

n Claude E. Kirkwood, 53, of Mt. Vernon, pleaded guilty to one count of resisting a peace officer and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, both class 4 felonies, and was sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by one year of mandatory supervised release. On Jan. 1, 2012, Kirkwood was stopped by police for urinating on a street sign, information states. He initially resisted his arrested and was found to be in possession of various controlled substances.
