Waltonville home fire kills one man

WALTONVILLE — A 53-year-old man is dead, succumbing to injuries sustained in a home fire.

Frank J. Horton died as a result of the blaze, which was reported to emergency personnel at 4:20 a.m. Thursday morning at 613 Main Street. According to Waltonville Fire Protection District Chief Ed Dulaney, the home was fully involved in fire when fire fighters arrived.

“It was so hot it burned the siding on the trailer next door,” Dulaney said. “His boy lived in it.”

Dulaney said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area of the home.

“We don’t have a cause, but it looks like it started there in the kitchen,” Dulaney said.

Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Joe Marks said Horton was officially pronounced dead at 6:01 a.m. Thursday morning, and although the cause of death is undetermined at this time, it appears Horton succumbed to smoke inhalation.

Waltonville Fire Protection District received mutual aid on the call from Ashley Fire Protection District, Woodlawn Fire Protection District, Sesser Fire Department and Jefferson Fire Protection District was put on standby to handle any other calls that came in.
