MT. VERNON — On a 10-2 vote, the Jefferson County Board on Monday night approved a resolution to place on the March 2014 primary ballot a question asking voters to approve a one-quarter of 1 percent Public Safety Sales Tax.
The measure passed with board members Jeremy Hall and Joey McDermott voting in opposition.
Public member Bob Shaw expressed concern about the Courthouse Renovations Committee recommendation, approved last week, during the "public input" portion of the meeting.
Most board members spoke in favor of placing the question before the voters, and Chairman Robert White said from where he sits, "This is the only clear path I can see to accomplish the needed renovation of our courthouse."
