MT. VERNON — Three people will be joining the 2014 United Way board — Jane Klein, Linda Williams and Brittany Morlan.
“This is always a bittersweet time for Lynn and I at the United Way,” said Rhonda Edmonson, executive director of United Way of South Central Illinois. “On one hand, we are gaining new friends and new volunteers; but on the other hand, it means some of our most veteran board members are leaving us.”
Retiring members include Marcia Scott, representing Tri-County Electric Cooperative. Scott has served on the board six years.
“This is actually Marcia’s second six-year term and she is also a past president,” Edmonson said. “Marcia has been very dedicated to United Way and the employees of Tri-County Electric have been so instrumental in helping us kick-start the Dolly Parton Imagination
Library and they are always one of our biggest workplace campaigns. Marcia is my member that always thinks of the questions to ask that others don’t. She keeps all of us on our toes and constantly thinking. She only wants UWSCI to be the absolute best. She is a dedicated advocate for our donors and for our agencies.”
Bill Whisenant is the second board member retiring.
“Bill has been a wonderful representative of Continental Tire the Americas for six years,” Edmonson said. “I remember when Bill first started on the board he was very quiet and a great listener. Bill leaves us as a very seasoned United Way volunteer that is active and provides insightful input into every conversation we have. He served as president in 2012 and president ex-officio last year and has done a tremendous job. Bill always leaves us laughing and with a smile. He is one of the first to step up and make something happen whenever he can. He has a real heart for social services.”
