Airport approves change orders

---- — MT. VERNON — Several change orders related to the Innovation Park hangar and office building were approved Tuesday by the Mt. Vernon Airport Authority.

Of the four bids under consideration, two were awarded to Lowe’s — for drywall and plywood at a cost of $1,361; and for suspended ceiling components at a price of $728.

Remaining bids were awarded to Associated Lumber for nine doors at a cost of $2,889; and to Southern Illinois Tile and Carpet for carpeting at a cost of $4,984.

“We finished suspending the ceilings today and we’re about halfway on painting,” reported Manager Chris Collins. “The electricians will do their final trim out later this week.”

Collins added, “We’re excited where the project is at. Hopefully, we can move in by April 1.”

In other business, Collins reported airport officials have been given the green light on the B and E taxiway project, at the midfield intersection. FFA officials had previously ruled against the airport on certain criteria required of the project but have now reversed that ruling.

Collins said the project should be ready for an August bid letting with construction beginning in late September or early October.

The total estimated project is $450,000, which includes a 5 percent local match, or $22,500.

Airport commissioners also approved a cost outlay of $1,950 to Bruce Baldwin of Baldwin Media, based in Eldorado, to update the video presentation on the airport’s web site. Collins said the funds would come out of the Flight Line budget.

Commissioners also approved a 50-cent an hour salary increase for administrative assistant Sheila Jolly, who is observing her one-year anniversary this month with the Authority.

“We’re glad we’re in a position to do this for Sheila. It takes everybody to pull the rope,” said Chairman Mike Ancona.

“We’ve got one of the best airport staffs in the country,” added Commissioner Joe Bob Pierce.
