Chamber sets theme for annual dinner

MT. VERNON — A celebration of the past year’s accomplishments and recognitions to individuals who made a difference will highlight the annual Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce dinner.

It will be held Friday, April 4 at the Holiday Inn. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m.; the dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The theme for this year’s dinner is: Jefferson County: An Island of Excellence — separately ourselves from the rest through progress, collaboration and success.

“This year we’ve taken a lot of steps forward. We’ve worked very heavily with the city of Mt. Vernon and the JCDC, always with the goal of benefitting our membership as well as the community,” said Michaela Scattone, marketing director of the Chamber.

“This year we are going to report on a transitional year, with a new president and new executive director. Our main initiative is to report on the past year’s events and projects to our membership as well as to thank our membership and sponsors and their continuous support,” she added.

Awards to be presented at the annual dinner include: Citizen of the Year, Small Business Person of the Year, Young Professional of the Year and the President’s Award. Award recipients will be named during an April 25 news conference at city hall.

Last year’s winners were: Richard Straeter, Citizen of the Year; Dwayn Klein of Mt. Vernon TV and Appliance; and Bria Ashby, Young Professional of the Year. The President’s Award was presented posthumously to Ron Kruep and accepted by daughter Holly.

Tickets for the dinner are $40 per person. Tickets may be purchased as individuals or by table. RSVP is required by April 1, according to Chamber officials.
