Officers from the Mt. Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department teamed up and conducted road side DUI checkpoints in Mt Vernon on Friday evening.
Officers made contact with approximately 450 motorists and issued 23 traffic citations.
The citations included one DUI, one suspended driver, one driving without a license, two illegal transportation of alcohols and one underage possession of alcohol.
Additionally, officers made criminal arrests of resisting arrest, possession of cannabis, possession of drug equipment and a warrant arrest, according to information from the Mt. Vernon Police Department.
According to information from the Jefferson County Justice Center, three people were arrested for driving under the influence on Saturday morning, between 12:48 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. One other person was in custody on an alcohol-related charge.
The alcohol-related detail is conducted by officers on a routine basis to keep impaired motorists off the road and to keep roadways safe for other Jefferson County motorists.
