A Jefferson County man has been sentenced to federal prison on methamphetamine related charges, Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced Monday.
Alvin Gene Chelf, 42, of Bonnie, was sentenced to 19 ½ years in federal prison, to be followed by six years of supervised release, and fined $400. The Court sentenced Chelf as a career offender due to his previous criminal history.
Chelf had pleaded guilty to two counts in a federal indictment. Count 1 charged on Feb. 14, Chelf knowingly and intentionally distributed methamphetamine, and Count 2 charged on Feb. 19, 2013, Chelf knowingly and intentionally distributed meth.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
