MT. VERNON — The Granada's upcoming Classic Kids' Matinee screening April 12 will feature the 1968 live-action Disney film, “The Love Bug.”
Doors open for the showing at 1:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 2 p.m. All children who attend must be accompanied by an adult.
Prior to the screening, a drawing will be held for a free kids' birthday party at the Froggeez family fun center. Admission to the show is free and concessions are available for a modest fee.
“This program benefits families,” said Granada board member David Lister. “(It's) making new memories. So many kids saw movies there with their parents.”
“The Love Bug,” which is also referred to as “Herbie the Love Bug,” follows the story of a race car driver and his friendship with a magical Volkswagen racing Beetle with human characteristics. The film stars Dean Jones, Michele Lee and Buddy Hackett.
The sponsor of this month's film is Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
Rose Aldag-McVey, marketing communications specialist for Good Samaritan, said her organization is proud to sponsor the Classic Kids' Matinee.
“We like to participate in activities that are consistent with our mission,” Aldag-McVey said. “As a faith-based organization, our mission is to continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. And 'The Love Bug' seems like a family-oriented positive piece which would be appealing to a broad audience.”
The Granada Center for the Performing Arts hosts the Classic Kids' Matinee once a month each year from October to May. Eight films are selected each year and this season's matinee has featured a mix of live action and animated movies.
Sponsors for this season have included several local banks, as well as Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.
Aldag-McVey said Good Samaritan has been a sponsor in past years as well.
