INA — Art students from Rend Lake College and area high schools will showcase their work at the 2014 Student Art Show, which will be open now through May 2.
Art will be on display in the Learning Resource Center Gallery and Theatre Lobby at the Ina campus.
The works of art displayed in the show have been judge — one, Tienne Rei Kollars, is a local artist from Herrin and a previously-featured artist at RLC.
“We’re very proud of our students for all the hard work they’ve put in for this show,” said Melissa McClement-Engler, art associate professor at RLC. “We have already sold five pieces, so this isn’t just an opportunity for students to compete and get feedback, but it’s also the first sell for some of them. Unlike art galleries, we negotiate for our students and take no commission. We just get the satisfaction that they’ve succeeded and we’re happy for them.”
The categories for the art show awards include Best of Show, RLC Foundation Award, Purchase Award and Best Portfolio. The scholarship awards include the Claxton Award, Alyssa Award, RLC Scholarships and the Adam Lee Lorance Memorial Scholarship Award. Awards will be announced this week.
