Leadership academy offered

MT. VERNON — — The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Educational Clearinghouse Council will host its annual leadership academy beginning Thursday, Oct. 18.

Brandon Bullard, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce executive director, said the chamber has been providing the workshops for at least 10 years.

“It is very much a beneficial program, not only for inexperienced leaders, but also for veterans,” Bullard said. “There’s something for everybody.”

Six sessions will be hosted by different community leaders every third Thursday of the month beginning in October and continuing until March, Bullard said.

Every session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and go until 11:30 a.m., and then attendees will be encouraged to attend the chamber luncheon held immediately after.

“The first two or three sessions are very much about learning how you lead and how others lead, how you can be impactful and lead better,” Bullard said. “The final three are about fine tuning, learning more from great leaders, and learning more about yourself.”

The first session, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18 will be on the topic “Colors,” hosted by Debi Richardson at Crossroads Community Hospital.

The second session will be presented by Tom Upchurch of the Housing Authority of Jefferson County at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 15. The topic of the session will be “F.I.S.H.”

Mary Ellen Bechtel will present a World Class Workforce and Community Leaders Panel at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Municipal West building.

The January session will be presented by David Keen at the Holiday Inn, with a topic of “John Maxwell’s Leadership Gold, Pt. 1.”

Keen’s topic will continue into the Feb. 21 session at Community First Bank with part two.

The sixth and final session will be held at 8:30 a.m. March 21 at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. The topic “Difficult Conversations in the Workplace” will be presented by Brenda Alexander.

Bullard said pricing is different for the leadership academy this year. To attend each session, the cost will be $300 for chamber members and $350 for non-chamber members; to attend either the first three or last three sessions, the cost will be $200 for chamber members or $225 for non-members.

Those interested in signing up for the event may call the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce at 242-5725.
