MT. VERNON — — The 2012 Black Married Couples Hall of Fame dinner will be held Saturday at the Rolland W. Lewis Community Building at Veterans Park.

Three local couples will be inducted into the Black Marriage Hall of Fame — Dr. Prince and Gloria Oliver, the Rev. Willie and Brunette Green and the Rev. Allen and Iris Rudd. The three couples will join the first inductees who were named to the hall of fame last year during the inaugural event — Bob and Sharon Brown, Robert and Vernonica Brown and the Rev. Ron and Carolyn Lash.

The keynote speakers for the event will be Eddie and Cathy Williams, marriage and music ministers who share their love, pain, healing and triumph through seminars and songs that touch, inspire and bring deliverance through Christ’s love, according to information from the Black Marriage Hall of Fame.

The two have very different personalities, and have been shaped by childhood and environmental experiences. They were married May 18, 1974.

“When their fairy tale marriage met the tumultuous storms of reality, only the truth and the word of God could save their relationship,” information states. “Each committed to fulfillment of the will and purpose of God on a personal level, and God provided for them a reward which transcended their expectations. God gave them true oneness in him.”

The Black Marriage Hall of Fame grew from the Three Fold Ministry of the Rev. Cleo and Shirilyn Holt, who work together counseling and helping married couples in the community. The dinner is being held in conjunction with Black Marriage Day, which is held to celebrate “bold and brave couples in our city who have committed to each other until death do they part.”

Doors for the catered event will open at 5:30 with a red carpet walk and pictures in Sunday best. Hors d’oeuvres will be served until 6:15 p.m. and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 a couple or $25 for a single ticket, and the event is for those aged 18 years and older. Please RSVP for the catered event by calling 214-2111 or 242-2932.
