MT. VERNON — The Student Council at Mt. Vernon Township High School have planned activities for students and the community to celebrate Homecoming this week.
The theme for the week is “Haunted Homecoming.”
“The Student Council has really worked hard this year,” said Jamey VanZandt, co-sponsor of Student Council. “Everyone has been very involved to make this a special week.”
Today is Sprit Day: Ghoulish Twin Tuesday; Wednesday is Sprit Day: Homecoming T-Shirt Day.
Thursday, the annual Homecoming Parade will be held at 2:55 p.m., going from MVTHS down Seventh Street, turning west on Main Street; then south on 10th Street, and back east on Broadway to Seventh Street and back to the high school. The theme of the parade is “March of the Dead.” In the evening, the inaugural “Four Downs of Doom” Powder Puff football game will be held at 7 p.m. at J.D. Shields Stadium.
Friday is Sprit Day: Orange and Black Ram Pride Day with the Homecoming/Fall Sports Assembly with a special appearance by the Jesse White Tumblers. The Assembly and event will be held in Changnon Gym.
The evening football game will pit the Rams vs. the Carbondale Terriers. The varsity game will get underway at 7 p.m. at J.D. Shields Stadium.
Prior to the game, the FFA will host its Scholarship Barbecue from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Proceeds from the barbecue dinner will go toward scholarships.
The Homecoming Dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday in Changnon Gym. The theme this year is “Full Moon Fever.” Coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen will get underway at 10 p.m. The public may enter the gym starting at 9:30 p.m. with a $5 donation to benefit the MVTHS Library.
The Homecoming Queen candidates this year are Philisha Boyd, Denaesha Davis, Shannon Docherty, Shyana Ham, Gauri Kaushal, Mariah Richardson and Mollee Sager; Homecoming King candidates are Nathan Arnold, Wyatt Capps, Jonathan Taylor Dorris, Shakari Hawkins, Mac Jones, Brykell Patton and Brett Rightnowar.
